My Go-To Green Smoothie Recipes

On September 16, 2013

Every healthy chef and health coach out there has at least one signature green smoothie recipe.  It’s like a right of passage; something that just happens as soon as you brand yourself a health expert.

Since I am never one to do things the normal way, I’ve totally failed to post a green smoothie recipe.  [Cue suspenseful brass music] Until now…

Since I’m long overdue, I’m giving you two.  And that sentence rhymed.

Here is my classic “low-glycemic, high protein, fill-you-up, and get your fiber” greentastic smoothie

HCQ Classic Green Smoothie

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 banana (frozen) or 1 medjool date (bananas are great for texture, but the taste can be overpowering)
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, if you’re using a date I recommend chia seeds to give the smoothie a thicker texture)
  • 1 tablespoon nut or seed butter (I love sunflower seed butter)
  • 1 giant handful of baby spinach
  • 1 pinch of sea salt
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • a dropper full of chloroxygen (optional)

Directions
Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

And here’s my “fruity, fancy, doesn’t taste healthy, but surprise!, it really is” smoothie

The Greeña Colada (as seen on Cosmopolitan.com)

  • 3/4 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 a banana (preferably frozen, remember to peel it before you freeze it)
  • 1/2 cup of pineapple
  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • A sprinkle of sea salt

Directions
Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

What are your favorite green smoothie recipes or ingredients?  I need to know!<h/2>
