Five Faves: April 2014

On April 23, 2014

HCQ_five faves_April.14The theme of this month’s Five Faves is: I can see clearly now.

Let’s start from the top…

1. JuJu sandales, $47.  I’m calling it now: these glittery kicks are going to be my go-to summer sandals.  Talk about giving new meaning to the term “twinkle toes”

2. Food Rules by Michael Pollan illustrated by Maira Kallman, $15.  Get this book, put it in a visible, accessible location.  Open it once a day.  Trust me.

3. Bodum French Press, $40.  I used my french press every day to make herbal teas.  Load it up with all sorts of fresh herbs like mint, rosemary, thyme and sage.  Cover them with boiling water and let it steep for about 10 minutes.  And, boom!  Amazingly fresh and fragrant herbal tea.

4. Quinn Popcorn, $5.  I bought it for the name, but stayed for the flavor.  I’ve tried them all and while it sort of felt like Sofie’s Choice when I had to decide which one to feature, you know I’ve always been a sucker for a salty/sweet snack so I had to go with Vermont Maple & Sea Salt.

5.  Glass Food Storage Containers, $40.  If you put hot food into a plastic storage container, toxic chemicals from the plastic can leach into your food.  You don’t want that.  Store your food in glass containers to avoid all sorts of unnecessary toxins.
